Hello! This is Ekin.

I am a visual and service designer specializing in data visualization, visual storytelling, and interface design. I am always curious and love diving into the connections between human behavior, culture, technology, and design. Over the years, I’ve worked in different design fields and teamed up with professionals from various disciplines, which has made me adaptable and versatile. I worked on projects for top pharmaceutical, technology, and insurance companies in Germany. My work focuses on creatively and impactfully representing and narrating complex relationships,  with compassion at heart.

Projects

These are projects and concepts I developed and collaborated on. The projects after September 2022 cannot be displayed due to confidentiality agreements.

Helm:

'Helm' is a concept project that focuses on societal and self-identity relations in the context of granular participation in political decision-making processes. ‘Helm' prepares the users to become better equipped to steer their way around the political realm they experience through the visualization of information. The platform features a repository of political decisions history overview that displays the evolution of the self, society’s political views, and their relationship to one another over time.

Ways to design interactions for people to explore how their political views and society’s standing on those have evolved over time were experimented with. This visual narrative was created to provide insights for the users to become able to observe at what points in time and about what political topics they were aligned with the general public and at what points they were opposed. The designed concept is developed as a personal tool for gaining in-depth self understanding. To reveal the already existing biases and prejudices of individuals that they may not be aware of. The concept aims at redirecting large quantitates of data generated within the society. To empower the individual rather than elevating already existing power centers and increasing their methods of manipulation, influencing, and social construction. The concept displays the irregular decision mobilities of groups of people on certain policies on which they acted against their average usual political standings and their average positions within the political spectrum. Providing such information on how people can unite on certain opinions have the potential to invoke empathy and open channels of communication between opposing groups of people.

Memo-re:

We are humans, therefore limited. We loose track of ourselves, of people around us, of our surroundings and as a consequence we loose track of our memories.

In order to keep track, the concept aims at collecting data about experiences and create visualizations that act as tokens of remembrance, data mirrors that reflect back memories.

Visually and auditorily sorted stacks of data act as ‘memory palaces’ that encompass clues and guides for rememberance.

BIRKA ELIXIR

The goal of this project was to create a new brand for more environmentally friendly cleaning products and a retail experience that would go along with it to differentiate the company from its competitors in relation to changing market dynamics.

The end-products are designed to be prepared by the users by mixing the base product with additives, that are to be refilled on kiosks at various locations according to the instructions provided on the application. Both the packaging and the refill kiosks are formed to resemble chemistry lab equipments in order to enhance the users’ involvement in the process of creating the product. The kiosk locations and mixture recipes can be reached via an app designed for Elixir.
